This is the long-awaited final release of my VFS demo reel! I had been awarded scholarship (an additional free term) during this term 6, so expect a follow-up release in two months time.
I want to do a shot involving two cars, but i don't yet want to model another car completely, so I tweaked the existing model. New ground effects kit, c110 skyline taillamp conversion, rear windshield slats, and a different color. There were initially new wheels too, but i decided that i didn't like the look of them, so i used the same old wheels.
started as a speed modelling exercise, I've been thinking about treating it like a lighting exercise as well. Could possibly show up in the background of some future car renders... maybe...
anyway.. just keepin' you all updated on what I've been doing this term.
this is the same car model (280z) I've been working on, but rendered in a different environment. It was just a quick "something-to-do-while-rendering" project.. but I may decide to continue working on this. Anyway I'd love to hear what you think!
This is (as a class) our last presentation video before our final release of our demo reels. It's exciting! And daunting that there is still so much work to do!
anyway, enjoy the update! Please, as always, feel free to comment & critique the work in progress!
with the last term upon us, it's absolutely crunch time; I'm actually very excited! I'll be pushing myself twice as hard to meet certain deadlines I've set for myself. I'm hoping to have all four shots rendered by the end of the second week. I will try to update this blog on a daily basis here on out. Keep an eye on this blog; there is alot on the way!
for now, I'll leave you with this special treat, a few images from my growing collection of reference photos:
VFS Patrick Vidal Term 5 Week 8 Presentation from patrick vidal on Vimeo. sorry for that short lapse in updates; i locked my cameras early week 7, and since then I've been working away at the lighting & shading of each shot starting with shots one and two. I'm incredibly excited to get started finishing & detailing shots three and four! So far, the entire environment (shots 1-4) is base-shaded (no dirtmaps) and base-lit (nothing fancy). It took me three days to finish detailing (prop modeling, lighting & shading) shot one. I've put in two days of work lighting and shading shot two. I'm still feeling very confident that I'll have near-final quality renders by the end of term 6 week 1.
A note about my credits; I want to show additional details that i wasn't able to show in my first four shots (car interiors mostly..) while the credits roll at screen right. The shot in the current credits is an old render (from term 4 I think). ...and another note about the car animation: it's only been blocked in. I started to animate in term 5 week 6, but I had to put that on hold as i had to lock cameras and then finish shots one and two. I'm planning to have animated the car by the end of week two of term six.
Anyway, feel free to rip it apart; I'm still very open to comments and critiques!
By the way I owe a huge thank you to everyone that helped me lock cameras in Term 5 weeks 5-7. Also a very very big thank you to everyone who's been ripping my work apart pointing out all the mistakes and what i can improve upon.
